There are only a couple of hours left until the kick-off for the most important football tournament of the year! From June 10th till July 10th, France will be hosting the 2016 UEFA European Championship and we are excited about it. Will Spain be able to defend its title? Will the current world champion Germany be successful or will France be able to win the EURO at home? We are looking forward to see 51 great football matches within four weeks. The opening game will be France against Romania at the Stade de France tonight. Unlike in 2012, when Poland and Ukraine were hosting the tournament, the EURO 2016 will see 24 teams competing for the title. For the teams from Albania, Iceland, Northern Island, Slovakia and Wales it’s the first ever participation in the final round of a European Championship.
These teams fight for the title:
The EURO 2016 also brings us many alterations and new laws. For instance, not only the first and second team of every group will be qualified for the knockout round. The four best teams that placed on rank three will also go to the last sixteen. Other changes that the UEFA made also have an impact on the players. So, if a player feints to kick the ball during a penalty kick when he is right next to the ball, he gets a yellow card. But in the run up it’s still allowed to do so. Players can also get a red card for bad behavior before the match has even started.
Before the opening match for the EURO, we killed some time playing tabletop football in a special Tinkerbots style. Instead of little plastic figures we used Tinkerbots robots with special football skills. All we needed was a Powerbrain, motion modules, Cubies and LEGO®. As you can see in the video our racer is even faster than Gareth Bale or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Another version of the racer with two Powerbrains and Pivots can shoot so precisely that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi could even learn from our Tinkerbot. We have even created a robotic goalkeeper with a Pivot and a Twister that is even better then Manuel Neuer.Enjoy all the matches from the EURO 2016!
