2016 is a very sad year. After David Bowie, Muhammad Ali and Alan Rickman, another legend has passed away. Actor Bud Spencer has died at the age of 86. Together with his partner Terence Hill, he was responsible for some of the funniest action-comedies of the 1970s and 1980s. The mix of funny dialogues, wild brawls and the unique characters of the two actors made them real cult heroes.
Bud Spencer will truly be missed by his fans. He was a great person and had more talents than just acting. Spencer was born under the name of Carlo Pedersoli in Naples, Italy in 1929. Before he became a successful movie star, he studied law and became a professional swimmer who participated in two Summer Olympics. Bud Spencer also worked as a composer for the record company RCA and later launched his own airline. In 1967, he had his breakthrough as an actor when he played Hutch Bessy in the spaghetti western “God forgives… I don’t!”. Spencer reprised a similar role as a stubborn and kind-hearted man in nearly all of his films.
One aspect of Bud Spencer’s life is not so commonly known: he was also a great inventor and tinkerer. He invented some interesting things and registered several patents. Some of his most interesting inventions include a safety door lock, a gun with three barrels and a walking stick that can be turned into a chair. We miss him already!
